Application for a Conditional Working Permit for MEXT scholarship students

Guidelines for MEXT Scholarship Students Wishing to apply for a conditional working permit

International students on MEXT scholarship are guaranteed to be provided with sufficient financial resources, allowing students to focus on their academic studies without having to worry about financial problems. Therefore, it is neither recommended nor consistent with the spirit of the scholarship to obtain a conditional work permit with the intention of saving money through part-time job.

Hence, Toyohashi University of Technology will not allow MEXT scholarship students to have a part-time job in principle. However, for the following works will be considered and only when TUT allows, MEXT scholarship students can apply for a conditional work permit. (Submit the Form 1 to the International Affairs Division Office.) The International Affairs Division Office will notify the result of the application to the MEXT scholarship students.

  1. If asked to work as a cultural collaborating assistant in a public organization

(a regional public organization or an incorporated foundation)

  1. If asked to work as a legal interpreter for a courthouse
  2. If participating in an internship in Japan that is necessary for relevant study/research
  3. Other reasons for which external working activities will contribute to study/research

After the student has allowed to apply for the permission and obtained a conditional work permit, the MEXT scholarship student is required to do the following:

  1. Please bring the Residence Card to the International Affairs Division office and let us know having obtained a conditional work permit.
  1. After accepting a part-time job, please submit Form 2 to the International Affairs Division Office. Each time you change or take up additional part-time job(s), please submit Form 2 to the International Affairs Division Office.

Note

・A conditional work permit is granted by the immigration office and in some cases, even if you apply for it, it will not be granted. Also, under no circumstances can you engage in any activity that involves income before you have obtained a conditional work permit.

It is not necessary to apply for a conditional work permit if you would like to do TA, RA, supporter, research assistant, business support or administrative assistant at Toyohashi University of Technology.

・All MEXT scholarship students will have their passport and residence card checked at irregular intervals.
