The 9th ICCEED Open Forum
International Cooperation in Engieering Education and its Effects upon Industrial Development -Achievements and Challenges-
On November 26, 2010, the International Cooperation Center for Engineering Education Development (ICCEED) held the 9th Open Forum entitled "International Cooperation in Engineering Education and its Effects upon Industrial Development -Achievements and Challenges-" at Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Research Institute. The forum was attended by around 60 participants from home and abroad, including staff members of universities and organizations for international cooperation.
One of key goals of international cooperation in engineering education is industrial development of partner countries. What kind of roles, then, has engineering education been playing in industrial development in different countries? And how has the international cooperation in engineering education contributed to realization of industrial development in different countries? What are challenging issues or difficulties?
In these respects, we invited four distinguished speakers in the forum, shown in the program below. The speakers gave talks on the following issues: (1) effects and challenges of engineering education to industrial development in Indonesia and Thailand, (2) Japanese public administration's approach to international cooperation in engineering education, and (3) program proposal to train engineers for industrial development and its implementation by Japanese industry.
After the talks, participants and the speakers lively discussed how to make use of higher education and university-industry linkage for industrial, social, and economic development. We believe that this open forum provided materials to promote a deeper understanding of international cooperation for engineering education.
