The 6th ICCEED Open Forum
Contribution of Engineering Education Cooperation to Local Community and Regional Industries in the Developing Countries
Although there are already broad development projects in the developing countries such as medical treatment, educational promotion, industry and regional promotion, and administration capacity building, there is an expectation for Japanese universities to play a greater role, using their intellectual resources and experiences, in the improvement of international cooperation with the developing countries. Especially, for engineering university, there are some demands to contribute more to the problem in the region like industrial development, and disaster prevention as well as to supply engineers to the industries that support the regional economy.
Based on the fact that many secondary industries in the developing countries rely so much to the employment of cheap labors for their competitiveness, not to the technical improvement of their product, which is in contrast to the industries in the advance countries, there is a need to overcome the technical challenge faced by the industries in the developing countries by strengthening the collaboration between universities and industries. This will finally improve their global competitiveness and give better impact to the economical development.
In this open forum we discussed how engineering universities should work to the development of local community and regional industries.
