The Third Human Resource Promotion Seminars in FY2010

Human Resource Promotion Seminars

ICCEED Human Resources Promotion Seminars are regularly held by ICCEED in order to promote understandings for enhancement of cooperation with developing countries. The seminars are suited for those who are involved in cooperation activities with developing countries for engineering education in universities and technical colleges.

Summary

Recent globalization of our society makes inter-nations' relation more tight and closer. In this world, any environmental problems occurred in a country easily spread out to and affect other countries. In order to face up to such global environmental issues like global warming, climate change, environmental pollution and so on, we are requested to strengthen the structure of international cooperation.

The seminar was planned to introduce cases of environment pollution in Indonesia, in order to identify the role of the engineering universities to challenge the global issues, with Indonesian researchers who collaborating in the 1st International Research Project of Toyohashi Tech.

In this seminar, we had three Indonesian researchers as speakers who visit Toyohashi University of Technology for the first Toyohashi Tech International Research Project entitled "Dynamic Analysis of Pollutants in Water Environment and Construction of Water Environment Research Network in Indonesia" led by Prof. Takanobu Inoue, Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering. Dr. Rofiq Iqbal (Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Bandung Institute of Technology) gave a talk on "Environmental Problems in Indonesia: Who is Responsible?" He explained current status of environmental problems in Indonesia, frameworks applicable to the problems, and research outcomes in Bandung Institute of Technology for solving the problems. Mr. Namastra Probosunu (Department of Fisheries. Faculty of Agriculture Gadjah Mada University) gave a talk on "The Environmental Problems in Sleman District Yogyakarta Special Region." He reported features of environmental problems in areas by upstream, midstream, and downstream of rivers in Yogyakarta Special Region, where this work is jointly done with Dr. Djumanto (Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture, Gadjah Mada University). Prof. Muhammad Basir Cyio (Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Tadulako University) gave a talk on "Environmental degradation caused by various factors in Central Sulawesi Indonesia." He talked on major factors of environmental degradation such as mineral mining, and deforestation and forest fire caused by the factors.

After their talks, Dr. Satryo Soemantri (Visiting Professors of Bandung Institute of Technology and Toyohashi University of Technology, Former Director General for Higher Education, Indonesia) provided comments on issues in their talks by TV conference. Various kinds of questions were then discussed between the speakers and participants both in the seminar room and in Bina Nusantara University through TV conference system.
